Cell death in liver diseases:a review

WebAutophagy and apoptosis are two important cellular pathways that are critical for cell survival or death. The balance between apoptosis and autophagy regulates liver cell turnover and maintains intracellular homeostasis. However, the balance is often dysregulated in many cancers, including HCC. WebIn this review, we discuss UGCG in normal liver cells and mention briefly how UGCG and GSLs influence cells affected by Gaucher disease, an inherited genetic disorder caused by the deficiency of the enzyme glucocerebrosidase (GBA). Furthermore, we summarize how GSL species levels are altered in HCC.
